Miraculous Monterey

Trench Coat - Storets, Sweater - H&M, Scarf - Forever 21, Jeans - Sold Design Lab, Boots - vintage

Finally, I am back home from my trip to Northern California with my lovely friend Shamime! We had the most amazing time. We visited Monterey, Sacramento (where my friend lives right now), and then San Francisco. predicted rain for the entire week, but we got super lucky and all the days that we went sightseeing and exploring we got beautiful weather! Monterey was our first stop and we were there for two days. I have never been before, have always heard about how beautiful it was nature-wise, and knew that I had to see it. We stayed at a really cute Victorian-style hotel near the marina and pier, pigged out on Indian and Lebanese food (gosh, I cannot believe I ate two whole plates plus pita!), hunted for seas glass and seashells, and took in the breathtaking views of the Monterey Bay from the 17-mile scenic route that started at Pacific Grove and ended at Carmel. Now, let me tell you . . . the homes up along this route are drop dead gorgeous. It's like Beverly Hills, but a thousand times better because it's on a mountain full of beautiful nature, endless trees, and the most gorgeous ocean view I have ever seen. The beauty of this place was truly unreal. And the air was so fresh and the waves were so dramatic! I was hypnotized by everything around me. It really was a time to remember. I realize now that I am such an outdoorsy girl at heart! One of my favorite views was of the Lone Cypress, a tree that has stood on its jagged cliff for the past 250 years. The tree's history along with the nearby storm clouds floating above (but keeping at a safe distance) made for an impressive and magical sight. When I've made my fortune, I'm totally retiring in this place.

And finally, you can see my darker hair. The ends of my hair turned out darker than expected (almost black), and I am still not sure that I really like it. What do you think? HELP!

Oh, and does this STORETS trench coat rock or what?

A Twist On A Classic

Dress - H&M, DIY Sleeveless Trench - Volcom. Purse - Hobo International, Belt - vintage from CALICO, Boots - vintage

A look from last week that I never got the chance to get up on the blog yet. Rocking a lot of my favorite things all in one look: stripes, neon colors, and a classic trench. I got this trench coat a while back from Volcom, but the sleeves turned out to be too big. I decided to chop them off, a move that went perfectly with the already established spring trend of the sleeveless trench coat. It just seemed liked a good match to pair with the striped dress and my little yellow leather purse. Of course, I always have to tie everything together with a really wild belt. Leopard never fails in my book. Throw a little studs into the mix, and I'm good to go.

I'm still up north with my friend, and I cannot wait to show you the pictures from our trip when I get back home!

Electric Blue Feel

Top - City of Dolls, Skirt - H&M, Hat - Volcom, Bag - Melie Bianco, Shoes - ModCloth

I wanted to be casual, but I was still also craving some color. It is so funny that I threw on this electric blue top that I had hiding in the back of my closet, because I hardly ever wear blue (other than on jeans) . . . so it was something kind of different for me. Now I am pretty much obsessed with this hue. It's shocking in a good way! I've been humming Electric Feel by MGMT all week. Totally feeling groovy, man.

My hair is a little different right now. I was feeling blah blah about my hair on Thursday, so I asked my sister to take the scissors and cut off about 3" just for kicks. I made her just go for it and do that first cut quickly because I didn't want to change my mind. She actually did quite a good job for someone who has only had experience trimming her own bangs with baby scissors. My hair feels so nice with all those nasty, dead ends off. The look is simpler now, but I like it that way. Then Friday turned out to be color day . . . and I dyed my hair a dark dark fudge brown to get rid of the highlights I had leftover from my summer and tropical vacations of the past. It turned out much darker than expected, nearly black, but I really like it! New season . . . new hair . . . life is looking good. You shall see it soon . . . maybe in a while because I still have two outfit posts to show you pre-hair change.

It is raining like crazy today, and the forecast says rain all week up north! What perfect timing for the little road trip my friend and I are taking up to Norcal today. We're still going because we've been planning this for weeks, so hopefully the weather gods will be kind to us this time and give us a bigger break from the rain than expected.

Happy Sunday!

A Peek Inside Our Home on "How I Met Your Style"

I am so excited to share with you all these beautiful pictures of my sister Natalie and I taken in our home last month. The photographer (and now friend) is the super talented and all-around amazing person Carmen Chan. This girl blows me away! Carmen shot these portraits for the newly launched website How I Met Your Style that she started with her friend Ken Wu. It is here where they showcase "intimate portraits of your favorite style inspirations." My sister and I feel so lucky and honored to be one of the first to be shot for the website. We are so happy to have these wonderful pictures together. They are so special. I am so sad that Carmen is going to Hong Kong next month because I want to work with her more! It was such a blast getting to know this girl and her special talent behind the lens :) Make sure to check out How I Met Your Style to see a few more pictures that I didn't post here. I cannot wait to see how this project grows and grows.
