ICON // ANNE OF GREEN GABLES

Yes, I am actually posting about Anne. You know. Of the Green Gables. Yeah. That one. One bad ass little chick. Is it just me or is orphan Anne Shirley from Anne of Green Gables a total babe? I could even tell she was one before I saw the actual movie and just used what was conjured up in my imagination after reading the novels. Her fire red hair, those mischievous freckles, spunk for days, and an awkwardness that is quite charming. Anne was basically the bomb. Like, if she was growing up in today’s world, hipster boys would be lining around the block for this girl. Without a doubt. 

As a kid I couldn’t help but relate to Anne. I found myself caught up in Anne’s imaginative world inspired by all the books she had her nose stuck in every free moment she could find. Anne was also quite the fashionista, drawn to longer length dresses, higher necklines, tailored lace and satiny finishing touches (defining fashion choices of the late 1800s and early 1900s . . . but really what do I know about history?). Paired with that flaming red hair and a mouth that could talk for days . . . girl was ahead of her time. All I know. 

At work, we are completely obsessed with Victorian-esque embellishments and shapes, taking and pairing them back to tougher and more masculine pieces, such as cargo, distressed denim, and beat up leather. While at my desk last week looking through the piles of vintage clothing about to get in stock, I thought of Anne and why I fell in love with her in the first place, and also of how I want to keep taking bits of her style and making them my own today. Anne, you ruled. Thanks for that. 

Like Anne said, “Isn’t it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive–it’s such an interesting world. It wouldn’t be half so interesting if we know all about everything, would it? There’d be no scope for imagination then, would there?” Girl knows what up.
